11th of October, 2021: For its global users, OPPO today officially launched the all-new ColorOS 12 operating system. ColorOS 12 provides an all-new inclusive UI, smoother performance, and rich features that help enhance your everyday productivity and help you achieve a better work-life balance, with the goal of providing a seamless experience that’s closer to stock Android 12.
With this launch, OPPO makes ColorOS 12 public beta available to all of its worldwide consumers, making it one of the first OEMs to operate on Android 12. OPPO aims to extend to other models covering more countries and regions in the coming months, starting with the Find X3 Pro in Indonesia, Thailand, and Malaysia.
Inclusivity Now a Central Theme
With a presence in 68 countries and a global user base of 440 million, inclusivity has been a major element in the development of ColorOS 12. Building on OPPO’s Infinite Design concept, which is lightweight, clean, and richly customizable, the new OS provides a more inclusive experience and includes softer icons, animations, and an information framework that is friendly to different languages and cultures, as well as an adaptable framework with different phone formats.
Smoother, Seamless Experience Powering Greater Productivity
OPPO R&D and Innovation has always prioritised providing customers with a smooth, seamless experience, and the new ColorOS 12 emphasises both – comfort and endurance. ColorOS 12 has made some progress in addressing lags and stutters after extended use, particularly in anti-fragmentation and intelligent resource allocation, resulting in a low 2.75 percent system ageing rate after three years, an average of 30 percent lower memory occupation, and 20 percent lower battery consumption1.
The Quantum Animation Engine uses over 300 enhanced animations to produce genuine animated effects, catering to your visual intuitiveness. By simulating physical habits such as resistance, inertia, and rebound, the function smooths out the entire experience and aligns it more closely with human cognition and habits, making it more realistic and intuitive.
ColorOS 12 users can stay productive in a variety of situations thanks to features like PC Connect2, 3-Finger Translate powered by Google Lens, FlexDrop, and Phone Manager.
Prioritized Privacy: Cutting the gimmicks and focusing on the basics
On ColorOS, OPPO has prioritised privacy in response to user feedback. ColorOS 12 includes not only all of Android 12’s improved security and privacy features, such as Privacy Dashboards, Approximate Location Sharing, and Microphone and Camera Indicators, which empower users to be the masters of their own privacy with clear, visualised menus and buttons; but also the well-received OPPO-developed features, such as Private System, Private Safe, App Lock, and others.
Recognizing that user privacy is crucial about maintaining openness, OPPO has been working to improve data compliance through storage and process. With servers in different places across the world, OPPO ensures that user data is stored in a non-plain text format and transferred via a proprietary protocol on nearby servers.
The firm employs third-party supervisors in the data security field to ensure everyday process compliance, holding privacy certifications from reputable organisations such as ePrivacy and ISO27001.

An OS that’s open to the Android developers
Sharing the common value of a healthy mutual exchange with our Android partners and contributing on building a culture of openness and technological exchange to enhance both platforms, while ColorOS has incorporated many stock Android features, similarly, ColorOS has inspired the customizable trend in Android 12, like the Wallpaper-based Theming system in Material You, which you would be able to find a similar self-developed feature in previous ColorOS editions. Another fine example of this exchange is the App Cloner from ColorOS that now features in Android 12.
OPPO’s ColorOS aims to become a more Android developer friendly OS. In addition to the free camera SDKs covering OPPO’s most advantageous camera capabilities – including Ultra Steady Video Shooting, HDR, Super Wide-Angle, etc., OPPO has further opened its HyperBoost, Color Vision Enhancement to benefit Android app developers and enhance the Android ecosystem.
ColorOS 12 Rollout Plan
OPPO will first roll out ColorOS 12 public beta today in Indonesia, Thailand and Malaysia on the Find X3 Pro 5G. Rollouts will then continue step-by-step in other countries and on additional devices through the rest of 2021 and 2022. The company aims to bring ColorOS 12 to over 110 models with 150 million users.
OPPO’s Exclusive Upgrade Policy
For the very first time, OPPO is also announcing a major update policy. Specifically, for the OPPO devices releasing from 2019 and onwards the company will guarantee three major Android updates for its flagship Find X Series devices3, and two Android updates for the Reno/F/K and some of the A Series and a single Android update for the low memory A Series models4.
